Ferrari stands poised to embrace the electric revolution while preserving the exhilarating symphony that has long defined its legacy. The iconic Italian marque is set to unveil its first ever electric vehicle (EV) next year, promising a harmonious blend of traditional Ferrari thrills with innovative electric technology.
Ferrari’s commitment to electrification is not merely a nod to industry trends but a strategic evolution of its brand ethos. The forthcoming electric Ferrari is envisioned to be more than just a silent, swift machine; it aims to stir the souls of its drivers through an ‘authentic’ auditory experience.
At the heart of Ferrari’s design philosophy lies a group of elements that form the foundation of its automotive excellence:
- Longitudinal acceleration
- Lateral acceleration
- Braking
- Gear shifting
- Sound
These components are meticulously crafted to create a cohesive and captivating driving experience.
The transition to electric powertrains presents a unique challenge for maintaining the brand’s acoustic signature sound which has kept their internal combustion engines unique. Ferrari’s Chief Engineer, Mr. Carando, assures enthusiasts that the electric Ferrari will indeed have its own distinct sound, one that remains ‘authentic’ to the marque’s heritage.
When asked how Ferrari will address the sound criterion in its electric car, Mr Carando said: "You will see. You will hear." he also added "I think you need to wait a little bit longer. But I can tell you the new electric Ferrari vehicle is going to be a true Ferrari. All our cars are different cars for different Ferraristi, and different Ferrari for different moments."
This electric foray is not a departure from its combustion roots but an expansion of its portfolio to cater to diverse preferences. The electric model will offer a fresh emotional palette, distinct from the sensations delivered by the SF90, Purosangue, Roma, or the 12Cilindri.
"We didn't communicate we'll move 100 per cent to electric vehicles, but we only said we offer a new technology because we think there is an opportunity to deliver new driving thrills thanks to that technology," said Mr Carando.
While some manufacturers have introduced synthetic engine sounds to their EVs, Ferrari is determined to craft a genuine soundscape that resonates with the authenticity of its brand. This commitment to real sound underscores Ferrari’s dedication to sensory purity.
Ferrari anticipates that electric vehicles will constitute a significant portion of its sales by 2030, with a strategic mix of electric, plug-in hybrid, and petrol-only models. This balanced approach ensures that Ferrari remains at the forefront of automotive innovation while honoring its storied past.
The anticipation surrounding the form factor of Ferrari’s electric debut is palpable, with speculation ranging from a sleek two-door coupe to an SUV echoing the V12 Purosangue. Regardless of its silhouette, the electric Ferrari is poised to redefine the electric vehicle paradigm.
This electric initiative is not an ultimatum but an invitation to experience new driving thrills. The decision rests with the clients, who can choose from the visceral appeal of a traditional combustion engine, the balanced harmony of a plug-in hybrid, or the pioneering spirit of an electric Ferrari.
As Ferrari charts its course through the electric frontier, it does so with a deep understanding of its heritage and a clear vision for the future. The electric Ferrari is not just a vehicle; it’s a promise of passion, performance, and an authentic sound that will continue to captivate the hearts of Ferraristi around the world.
